Searches On Google For Black Friday Deals Were Up 50 Percent From Last Year

GoogleAs online retailers are witnessed strong Black Friday results, Google is reporting that there was a surge in online shopping searches with “Black Friday” on Thanksgiving day and the Friday after the holiday. Blogging Vs. Microblogging: Twitter’s Global Growth Flattens, While WordPress’ Picks Up

WPvsTwitteroct09Only a year ago, the conventional wisdom was that blogs were dead and microblogging would soon replace them. Twitter was supposed to kill blogs because it’s so much simpler to publish one sentence fragment at a time rather than whole thoughts bunched together into what is known in the trade as “paragraphs.”

Today, blogs are doing fine, while Twitter is struggling with flattening growth, at least to its Website Twitter.com (clients like Seesmic and TweetDeck have seen no slowdown). The weakness Twitter has been experiencing in the U.S. since last summer is now finally hitting its worldwide visitor growth as well. (more…)

Aviary’s Chrome Extension Proves That These Add-Ons Are Going To Be Awesome

13I have something to admit: I’ve never been a big extension guy. When I was still using Firefox, I liked them, but the downside, browser bloat, turned me away. But now that we’re starting to see the first steps of true extension support in Chrome, I think I could be swayed.

More emerges on Microsoft’s dance with newspapers

aaWe’ve been doing some more digging on the definitive moves by Microsoft to woo newspapers over to Bing and away from Google, a story we broke two weeks ago.

Since then there have been some follow-up by various media outlets, notably the Financial Times this week which confirmed that Microsoft had had discussions with News Corp to “de-index” its news websites from Google.

Who approached who first? The FT said the impetus came from News Corp, although our information is that Microsoft is also talking to a range of newspaper publishers in Europe as well, such as German publishers like Axel Springer. (more…)

2008 forecast: creating a dynamic IT infrastructure with grid storage

Today’s IT organization is getting squeezed from all directions. To support more data, storage environments continue to grow and become more complex to manage. Tighter controls on data access and management, increased compliance regulations, e-discovery, and corporate governance add to the complexity. Businesses are demanding improved services like higher availability levels. IT is also being asked to contain their spending while data continues to grow at alarming rates.

These challenges have taken their toll–IT today is bogged down with mundane, tactical tasks and has little time to focus on providing a dynamic, responsive IT service that creates strategic advantages and propels a business forward. (more…)
